Windsor (11-3-1) is the third seed of the 32-team Class 4A girls soccer state tournament, and it will play host to No. 30 Steamboat Springs (7-5-3) at 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to brackets released Sunday by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
The Wizards are one of three local girls soccer teams to qualify for state tournament play.
Windsor, a perennial 4A contender, enters Wednesday’s first-round game on a nine-match win streak.
If they win, the Wizards will advance to play host to No. 14 Evergreen (9-5-1) or No. 19 Erie (8-5-1) in the second round at a to-be-determined time Saturday.
Also in the 32-team 4A bracket, No. 20 Northridge (9-4-2) will face No. 13 Green Mountain (9-3-1) at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Jeffco Lakewood Memorial Field.
The winner takes on No. 4 Durango (9-2-3) or No. 29 Dakota Ridge (7-6-1) on Saturday.
Another longtime contender, Frontier Academy will encounter a tough challenge in the first round of the 32-team 3A bracket.
The Wolverines (8-5-2) are seeded 25th and will hit the road to take on eighth-seeded St. Mary’s Academy (9-6) in the first round at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Frontier is on a four-match win streak.
The winner takes on No. 9 Timnath (14-0-1) or No. 24 Regis Groff (8-7) in the second round Saturday.
The postseason will take place during the next few weeks, with the 3A and 4A state title games set for May 21 and the 2A and 5A finals slated for May 22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
