Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle Thursday afternoon on 16th Street near ŷɫƬ Central High School.

Police say a 37-year-old man riding a motorcycle struck a vehicle turning onto 14th Avenue. He was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Just after 4 p.m. May 2, ŷɫƬ police, fire and emergency medical personnel responded to 16th Street and 14th Avenue on a report of a crash with injuries involving a motorcycle. Police declined to release any information about the crash to the Tribune on Thursday, citing the ongoing investigation.

Police closed sections of 16th Street east and west of the crash for a couple of hours Thursday as they investigated at the scene.

Early investigation indicates the motorcyclist was heading west on 16th Street through the intersection at 14th Avenue when he hit an east-facing vehicle on 16th Street that had stopped waiting to turn.

The driver of the other vehicle — a 71-year-old woman — was not injured. Police say she remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The Weld County Coroner will release the identity of the motorcyclist after notifying next-of-kin.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officers Kuala or Wegscheider at (970) 350-9605.
