A Weld County man could spend the rest of his life in prison after he was convicted last year of sexually assaulting three underage girls.

Judge Meghan Saleebey — before her recent retirement — sentenced 55-year-old Anthony Abreo to 54 years to life after a jury convicted him last September on one count of sexual assault on a child and six counts of sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse, according to a news release from the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

“This man preyed on some of the most vulnerable young girls starting back in 1998,” Deputy District Attorney Yvette Guthrie said. “For years, this monster thought he got away with tormenting these girls, but that ends today. He’ll no longer have the opportunity to victimize anyone else in our community.”

Abreo was originally facing charges against four victims, and the jury found him guilty of assaulting three.

“This is the first time in my entire life I’ve ever been able to talk about it,” a victim said during last month’s sentencing hearing. “I owe it to myself, to that little girl, to say something today.”
