High school sports results (Tuesday-Wednesday): Severance unloads offensively in baseball win against Roosevelt

Severance 20, Roosevelt 3, 4 inn., in Johnstown: Severance emphatically evened the season series against Roosevelt at 1-1 and snapped the Rough Riders’ 10-game win streak. The Silver Knights out-hit Roosevelt 14-4. Three Severance players each had two hits and three RBI — senior Brennan Taylor, senior Ryan Ewoniuk and junior Dom Rice. Six Silver Knights players had multi-RBI outings, and six had multiple hits. Sophomore Israel Castillo and senior Seppe Salvatore each had an RBI for the Rough Riders. Severance improved to 13-7 overall, 9-6 in Class 4A Longs Peak play. Roosevelt fell to 12-8.

Valley 5, Lyons 4, in Gilcrest: Valley secured this tight nonleague win to improve to 11-9 overall. Trailing 4-0 early, the Vikings scored five unanswered runs, including two in each the sixth and seventh innings. Sophomore Seth Kissler had two RBI on 1-for-3 hitting. Junior Anthony Soliz was solid on the mound for Valley, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out 12 and walking one.

Skyview 19, ŷɫƬ West 13, in ŷɫƬ: ŷɫƬ West’s offense was producing, but its defense couldn’t get outs, as the Spartans suffered their ninth consecutive loss. West fell to 3-18 overall, 1-11 in 4A/5A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play. The Spartans led early, 5-3, but Skyview pulled ahead with a big eight-run top of the third. Despite the loss, West seniors Jacob Flores and Dominic Flores had four RBI apiece. Fellow senior David Lovato went 4 for 5 with two runs, two doubles and an RBI.

Riverdale Ridge 12, Northridge 0, 5 inn., in Thornton: Northridge struggled against a strong Riverdale Ridge team, suffering its sixth consecutive loss and falling to 5-15 overall, 4-11 in 4A Longs Peak play. The Ravens out-hit the Grizzlies 13-4.

Jefferson 18, Fort Lupton 11, in Edgewater: With this high-scoring affair, Fort Lupton suffered its fourth consecutive loss and fell to 3-15 overall, 2-5 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. Junior Javier Ortiz paced the Bluedevils offense with three RBI and two runs on 3-for-4 hitting. Fellow Fort Lupton junior Jesse Ceretto went 5 for 5 with five runs, a double, an RBI and two triples.

Girls golf

Northridge places second, in Longmont: Northridge shot a three-golfer score of 261 to place second out of 10 teams in a league match hosted by Niwot at Twin Peaks Golf Course. Riverdale Ridge placed first, shooting a 259.

Severance was fourth (295), and Roosevelt placed eighth (317).

Sophomore Grace Gerbers shot an 83 to place second and lead the Grizzlies. Also golfing for Northridge were junior Emmarie Miles (90, 7th), sophomore Jade Hepler (97, 14th), junior Leila Thompson (88, 5th) and senior Claire Lindenmayer (95, 13th).

Junior Sophie Morgan (99, 19th) golfed for Severance, as did junior Katelyn Johnson (98, 15th), junior Reagan Mendoza (108, 27th), senior Isabella Baessler (105, 25th) and freshman Jaycee Runner (98, 15th).

Golfing for Roosevelt were junior Bailey Haines (104, 22nd), senior Nayeli Urias (100, 20nd), senior Brooklynn Harkness (113, 34th), sophomore Bronwyn Gray (117, 38th) and junior Grace Sterkel (113, 34th).

Riverdale Ridge sophomore Brynn Balliet placed first, individually.

Resurrection Christian places third, in Windsor: Resurrection Christian shot a three-golfer score of 289 to finish third out of 10 teams in the Timnath Varsity Invitational at RainDance National Golf Course. Holy Family was first (268), and Berthoud placed second (288).

Sophomore Karina Garcia led Resurrection Christian, placing seventh overall and shooting a 93. She was well supported on the team by sophomore Avery Stockslager (99, 11th), junior Brooke May (97, 9th) and sophomore Karis Reichardt (106, 19th).

Timnath freshman CheyAnne Schrick placed first overall, shooting a 77.

Eaton 14, Valley 0, 5 inn., in Gilcrest: Eaton did all its damage in the first three innings, scoring five runs in the first, seven in the second and two in the third. The Reds out-hit Valley 11-1. Junior Cash Rinker led the way, hitting 2 for 3 with three RBI, a run, a double and a triple. Eaton senior Lucas Stone hit 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI. The Reds’ pitching duo of Stone and sophomore Gunnar Garrison combined to allow one hit, striking out 13 and walking one. Sophomore Alfonso Medina had the Vikings’ sole hit. Eaton improved to 21-0 overall, 13-0 in 3A Patriot League play, clinching an unbeaten league season. Valley fell to 11-10, 4-7.

Resurrection Christian 18, Liberty Common 3, 5 inn., in Fort Collins: Resurrection Christian powered its way to a third consecutive win, improving to 18-3 overall, 9-2 in 3A Patriot League play. Junior Vaughn Green led the way, hitting 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run. Senior Christian Siemer and freshman Braedyn Budd had two RBI apiece. The Cougars’ pitching duo of junior Charley Wilson and senior Deegan Corrigan combined to allow three unearned runs on three hits, striking out 10 and walking three.

ŷɫƬ Central 13, Far Northeast Warriors 6, in Denver: ŷɫƬ Central snapped a seven-game losing streak to improve to 5-15 overall. The Wildcats erased an early 5-2 deficit, tying the game at 5 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Central closed emphatically, scoring five runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Dayspring wins two, in ŷɫƬ: Dayspring Christian won both games of a league doubleheader against Bishop Machebeuf, 4-1 and 12-2 in five innings. Eagles freshman Owen Steward went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a double in Game 1. Junior Gage Davis pitched six innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, striking out eight and walking two. Junior Logan Vaniddekinge went 3 for 3 in Game 2. Junior Peyton Coleman went 1 for 1 with two RBI, a double and a run. Vaniddekinge pitched all five innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out five and walking none. Dayspring improved to 11-5 overall, 6-3 in 2A/1A Mile High play, winning seven consecutive games.

Platte Valley 9, Wellington 6, in Kersey: Platte Valley jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first inning and fended off Wellington the rest of the way. Senior Howdy Johnson led the way for the Broncos, hitting 1 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and a run. Junior Nick Silvas went 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Platte Valley climbed back to .500, improving to 11-11 overall, 5-7 in 3A Patriot League play.

Berthoud 3, University 2, 8 inn., in Berthoud: University fell just short in this dramatic battle between two of the top teams in the Patriot League and in the 3A classification. Berthoud jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second. The Bulldogs scored a run in the third and another in the sixth. The Spartans pieced together the winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Each team had just two hits. Senior Jacob Cruz and junior Will Korby each had a hit for University. Senior Connor Weber pitched seven innings for the Bulldogs, allowing two earned runs on three hits, striking out six and walking four. University fell to 18-4 overall, 9-3 in 3A Patriot League play.

Timnath 8, Highland 2, in Timnath: Highland was unable to build on a two-game win streak, falling to 10-11 overall, 3-9 in 3A Patriot League play. Timnath out-hit the Huskies 8-3.

Sterling 3, Weld Central 2, in Keenesburg: Weld Central fell just short of snapping a six-game losing streak. Trailing 3-0, the Rebels scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth but could climb no closer. Sophomore Lucas Johann went 2 for 4 with two RBI for Weld Central. Senior Easton Hoffman pitched all seven innings for the Rebels, allowing three unearned runs on five hits, striking out two and walking two. Weld Central fell to 6-16 overall, 0-12 in 3A Patriot League play.

Girls golf

Windsor places first, in Longmont: Windsor scored a four-golfer total of 338 to place first out of six teams in a match hosted by Longmont at Twin Peaks Golf Course. Junior Macy Kleve shot a 79 to lead the Wizards and place first overall. Also golfing for the Wizards were senior Allison Sanger (81, 2nd), senior Alexandra Strohman (87, 5th), junior Abbie Winterbottom (94, 12th) and freshman McKenna Hersh (91, 10th).
