Police are investigating a crash that killed two people Sunday at Weld County roads 49 and 54 southwest of Kersey.

Just after 5:30 p.m., the driver of an eastbound Kia on Weld road 54 failed to yield at a stop sign, pulling in front of a semi driving north on Weld 49, according to Kersey Police.

Police say the semi collided with the Kia, killing both 66-year-old Kent VanArsdol of Oklahoma and 65-year-old Carol Woods of Kersey. Nobody else was in the vehicle.

Police believe alcohol to be a factor but are awaiting the results of the blood work to confirm. They did not indicate who was driving.

The driver of the semi was not injured and faces no criminal charges for his part in the crash.
