High school sports results (Tuesday-Wednesday): Resurrection Christian narrowly tops University in marquee baseball clash

Baseball

Resurrection Christian 4, University 3, in Windsor: Resurrection Christian earned a marquee victory in a battle between two of the top teams in Class 3A at Chimney Park Fields. The Cougars are ranked 10th, and University is second, in CHSAA’s 3A Selection and Seeding Index. Resurrection Christian led 1-0 through two innings and 3-0 through six before the Bulldogs tied the game with three runs in the top of the seventh. The Cougars scored the winning run in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh. They out-hit University 7-3. Sophomore Braedyn Budd hit 3 for 3 with three RBI for Resurrection Christian. Junior Gage Viken hit 1 for 2 with two RBI for the Bulldogs. Senior Vaughn Green pitched six innings for the Cougars, allowing no runs on no hits, striking out nine and walking two. Resurrection Christian improved to 5-4 overall, 1-1 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. University fell to 8-3, 0-1. The Bulldogs had previously won eight consecutive games.

Platte Valley 2, Weld Central 1, in Keenesburg: Platte Valley fell behind early but scored a run in the fourth inning and another in the sixth to narrowly prevail in this league pitchers duel, despite being out-hit by Weld Central 5-2. Senior Hudson Flummerfelt had the Broncos’ only RBI, a solo home run. He hit 1 for 3. Senior Marcello Rossi drove in the Rebels’ only run, hitting 1 for 3 with a double. Weld Central sophomore Luke Witzel hit 3 for 3 with a run. Platte Valley senior Dagan Gomez pitched all seven innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits, striking out nine and walking two. Witzel pitched for the Rebels, allowing one earned run on two hits, striking out 10 and walking four. The Broncos improved to 8-3 overall, 1-0 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. Weld Central fell to 6-6, 0-1.

Windsor 15, Loveland 0, 4 inn., in Windsor: Windsor completely put the clamps on Loveland’s offense, while making sure its own offense didn’t allow this fine defensive outing to go to waste. The Wizards out-hit the Red Wolves 5-0. Windsor junior Wyatt Gustafson pitched a perfect four innings, striking out four batters. Leading 1-0, the Wizards scored 14 more runs in the bottom of the third. Senior Izaak Haro led the way, hitting 2 for 2 with five RBI, a run and a double. Senior Mason Jordan went 1 for 2 with four RBI, a home run and two runs. Windsor improved to 8-3 overall, 2-1 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Eaton 13, Fort Morgan 11, in Fort Morgan: Eaton went blow for blow with Fort Morgan, as the Reds won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 9-2 overall, 1-0 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. Eaton jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The Mustangs found their offense midgame, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fifth and tying the game at 9. The Reds immediately responded, scoring four of the final six runs. Senior Cooper Nider led Eaton, hitting 2 for 3 with four RBI, a run and a double. Freshman Chase Schmitt went 1 for 3 with two RBI.

Prairie sweeps doubleheader, in New Raymer: Prairie picked up a pair of league wins, defeating Peetz 3-2 and 10-7. The Mustangs improved to 4-4 overall, 4-0 in 1A District 5 play.

Fossil Ridge 17, ŷɫƬ West 0, 4 inn., in Fort Collins: ŷɫƬ West struggled, mightily, in this conference game. Fossil Ridge out-hit the Spartans 13-2 and had one error, compared to four for West. Sophomore Isaiah Preciado and senior Owen Wildt each had a hit for the Spartans. West fell to 4-9 overall, 0-5 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Timnath 19, Severance 16, in Severance: Severance fell just short in this high-scoring league affair. The Silver Knights led 8-1 after two innings before Timnath drove in 11 runs in the top of the third. Severance tied the game with three runs in the bottom of that same inning. The Cubs took the lead for good with seven runs in the top of the fifth. Domanick Estrella-Torres led the Silver Knights’ effective offense with six RBI, a home run and two runs on 2-for-4 hitting. Severance fell to 8-5 overall, 4-2 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

Estes Park 8, Fort Lupton 3, in Fort Lupton: Estes Park jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first and never allowed Fort Lupton a chance to climb all the way back. Senior Javier Ortiz recorded the Bluedevils’ only RBI, hitting 1 for 3 with a double. Fort Lupton fell to 4-6 with the nonleague loss.

Strasburg 6, Valley 2, in Strasburg: Valley was unable to build upon on its five-game win streak, falling to 6-5 overall, 0-2 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Vikings briefly led, 1-0, in the top of the first. But Strasburg scored two runs in the bottom of the second and never again trailed.

Boys lacrosse

Resurrection Christian 16, Windsor 8, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian outscored Windsor in each of the first three quarters to methodically pull away. The Cougars won their third consecutive match and improved to 6-2 overall, 2-0 in 4A Northern Conference play. The Wizards fell to 4-4, 0-2.

Girls soccer

Northridge 4, ŷɫƬ Central 1, at District 6 Soccer Stadium: Northridge climbed back to .500 with this decisive win against a crosstown rival. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before the Grizzlies scored three unanswered goals in the second half. Northridge improved to 3-3-2 overall, 1-0-1 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play, while ŷɫƬ Central fell to 2-5-1, 0-1.

Severance 7, Roosevelt 0, in Severance: Severance controlled this 4A/3A Longs Peak League match, improving to 4-2-1 overall, 1-0 in league play. Roosevelt fell to 1-5-1, 0-2.

Fossil Ridge 2, Windsor 1, in Fort Collins: Windsor fell just short of building on its three-match win streak. The two teams were tied at 1 at halftime before Fossil Ridge scored the winning goal in the second half. Junior Braely Martinez had the Wizards’ sole goal. Windsor fell to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Fort Collins 10, ŷɫƬ West 0, in Fort Collins: ŷɫƬ West couldn’t slow down Fort Collins’ attack, nor could it get its own offense going, in this conference loss. The Lambkins scored nine of their 10 goals in the first half. The Spartans fell to 3-4-2 overall, 0-1 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Clear Creek 7, Union Colony 1, in ŷɫƬ: Union Colony immediately fell out of contact in this league match, trailing 5-0 by the end of the first half. The Timberwolves fell to 0-5-1 overall, 0-3 in 2A Mile High play.

Girls tennis

Severance 7, Berthoud 0, in Berthoud: Severance was razor sharp in this league dual, winning all but one match in straight sets. Sophomore Joanna Carter won her No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Josephine Carter did the same at No. 2 singles. The Silver Knights improved to 4-2-1 overall, 3-0-1 in 4A Region 4 play.

University 7, Brush 0, in ŷɫƬ: University got off to a later than average start to its season, winning each match in straight sets. Among the victories, senior Hazel Byerly defeated fellow senior Valeria Escalante 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Charlie Sherman topped junior Adalynn Mason 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Resurrection Christian 6, Fort Morgan 1, in Fort Morgan: Resurrection Christian won every match in straight sets, except the No. 1 singles match, in which Cougars freshman Kylee Mayes had to withdraw. Among the victories, Resurrection Christian senior Isabella Prohs defeated senior Brynlee Ledford 6-0, 6-0. The Cougars improved to 4-2 overall.

Poudre 4, ŷɫƬ West 3, in Fort Collins: ŷɫƬ West just narrowly dropped this conference dual, winning two of four doubles matches but claiming just one of three tightly contested, three-set singles matches. Spartans senior Sophie Dhupar defeated sophomore McKenna Mehle 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 singles. ŷɫƬ West fell to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in league play.

Timnath 6, ŷɫƬ Central 1, in Timnath: ŷɫƬ Central’s only win in this conference dual came at No. 1 doubles, as seniors Hannah O’Toole and Serenity Steitz picked up a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win. The Wildcats fell to 0-6 overall, 0-4 in 4A Region 4 duals.

Thompson Valley 7, Northridge 0, in ŷɫƬ: Northridge was unable to pick up a match or a set in this nonleague dual. The Grizzlies fell to 1-4 overall.

Skyview 7, Fort Lupton 0, in Thornton: Fort Lupton dropped each match in straight sets. The Bluedevils fell to 2-5-1 overall, 0-3 in 3A Region 5 play.

Boys volleyball

Riverdale Ridge 3, ŷɫƬ Central 0, in ŷɫƬ: ŷɫƬ Central dropped all three sets of this conference match, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15. The Wildcats fell to 2-9 overall, 0-4 in 5A Northern Conference play.

Forge Christian 3, Fort Lupton 1, in Arvada: Fort Lupton saw its losing streak extend to nine matches, falling to 1-9 overall, 1-4 4A Northern Conference play. The Bluedevils fell 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-19. Fort Lupton senior Sebastian Gallegos had 15 kills, 16 digs, three aces and a block.

WEDNESDAY

Baseball

Roosevelt 13, Wellington 1, 6 inn., in Wellington: Roosevelt continued to play at a high level, winning its sixth consecutive game and improving to 8-1 overall, 6-0 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Already leading 5-1, the Rough Riders put the finishing touches on the win with eight runs in the top of the sixth. They out-hit Wellington 12-2. Junior Israel Castillo led Roosevelt, hitting 3 for 4 with four RBI and two runs. Fellow junior Stevie Kreimer went 3 for 3 with two RBI and a run. Junior Brady Mylander pitched five innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, striking out 11 and walking none.

Dayspring Christian 10, SkyView Academy 0, 5 inn., in ŷɫƬ: Dayspring remained red hot, winning its seventh consecutive game and improving to 8-1 overall, 7-0 in 2A Mile High play. The Eagles had multiple runs in three of five innings. They out-hit SkyView Academy 12-2. Senior Gage Davis, sophomore Owen Steward and senior Josiah Rodriguez had two RBI apiece. Rodriguez hit 4 for 4 with two runs. Senior Logan Vaniddekinge pitched all five innings for Dayspring, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out 12 and walking one.

Highland 13, Caliche 0, 5 inn., in Iliff: Highland scored in all but one inning to consistently create separation in this league win. The Huskies out-hit Caliche 12-1. Freshman Byron Berkheimer and senior John Bingley each had two RBI for Highland. Junior Stetson Hendren hit 3 for 4 with two runs, one RBI, two doubles and a triple. Senior Sawyer Morgan was electric on the mound for the Huskies, allowing no runs on one hit, striking out 13 and walking two. Highland improved to 5-4-1 overall, 1-1 in 2A Lower Platte League play.

Girls golf

Resurrection Christian ties for third, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian carded a three-golfer, 49-over-par 265 to tie Holy Family’s second team for third place during a 22-team match hosted by Loveland High School at the Olde Course. Windsor was eighth (283), Northridge tied for 16th (309), Severance was 18th (325), and Roosevelt placed 21st (360). Fossil Ridge won the tournament, shooting a 351, just ahead of Holy Family’s first team (254).

Junior Avery Stockslager led Resurrection Christian, shooting a 7-over-par 79 to place second overall. She was joined on the Cougars team by senior Brooke May (90, 17th), junior Karina Garcia (96, 30th) and sophomore Brooklyn Diepersloot (124, 84th).

Sterling senior Macie Doherty placed first overall, shooting a 77.

Senior Macy Kleve (85, 10th) represented Windsor, as did senior Abbie Winterbottom (96, 30th), sophomore McKenna Hersh (102, 46th) and junior Ruth Stephens (105, 53rd).

Senior Emmarie Miles (93, 21st), sophomore Ellejay Garcia (101, 45th) and senior Bailey McGeen (115, 73rd) competed for Northridge.

Freshman Joslyn Frei (99, 38th) suited up for Severance, as did Martha Andrijeski (105, 53rd), freshman Aubrey Brown (121, 81st) and freshman Sophia Murray (131, 88th).

Senior Bailey Haines (115, 73rd), junior Shaylee Ramirez (121, 81st), senior Grace Sterkel (124, 84th) and junior Braylynn Ramirez (133, 90th) played for Roosevelt.

Girls soccer

Middle Park 10, Fort Lupton 0, in Granby: Fort Lupton lost its second consecutive match by a 10-0 margin. Middle Park scored eight goals in the first half and two more in the second. The Bluedevils dropped their fifth consecutive match and fell to 1-7 overall, 1-4 in 3A/2A Frontier League play.

Girls tennis

University 5, ŷɫƬ Central 2, at GCHS: University won all three singles matches and two of four doubles matches in this intracity affair. Bulldogs senior Hazel Byerly defeated fellow senior Sarah Rasmussen 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. University sophomore Charlie Sherman topped senior Sabrina Ruiz-Horsman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. ŷɫƬ Central’s duo of junior Catie Andrews and senior Holly Heaston defeated junior Makayla Chambers and sophomore Brielle Barrett 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 overall. The Wildcats fell to 0-7.

Severance 6, Northridge 1, in ŷɫƬ: Severance won every match except No. 3 doubles in this nonleague affair. Silver Knights freshman Myla Moore won a hard-fought 2-6, 6-6 (7-3), 0-0 (10-3) match at No. 3 singles. Severance improved to 5-2-1 in duals. Northridge fell to 1-5.

Resurrection Christian 4, Dawson School 3, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian won just one of three singles matches, but it claimed three of four doubles matches. Cougars senior Isabella Prohs continued her fine season, defeating freshman Olivia Kirby 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Resurrection Christian’s senior No. 1 doubles tandem of Chloe Lincoln and Jordan Taylor defeated sophomore Soraya Payvar and senior Chloe Sebek 6-1, 6-1. The Cougars won their third consecutive dual, improving to 5-2.

Fossil Ridge 7, Windsor 0, in Fort Collins: Windsor wasn’t able to win a match against a strong Fossil Ridge squad. In the only match that went beyond two sets, Wizards junior Taylor Meinen and Mia Baatz fell to freshmen Emmaline Kelsch and Kalyna Reistad 5-7, 6-0, 7-5. Windsor dropped to 1-4 overall, 0-4 in 4A Region 4 play.

Boys volleyball

Severance 3, Forge Christian 0, in Severance: Severance comfortably won its fifth consecutive match, improving to 9-6 overall, 6-0 in 4A Northern Conference play. The Silver Knights won the three sets 25-12, 25-21, 25-16.
