High school sports results (Thursday): Windsor once again beats Loveland 15-0 to complete baseball sweep

Resurrection Christian 10, Valley 5, in Gilcrest: Two days after knocking off University at home, Resurrection Christian completed an impressive week with another win against a strong Patriot League foe. The Cougars jumped out to a 5-3 lead after one inning and led 7-3 after two. Resurrection Christian sophomore Braedyn Budd and junior Maddox Sessions each had two RBI. Sessions hit 3 for 4, while Budd hit 2 for 4 with a run. Valley juniors Seth Kissler and Caleb Dudley each had two RBI. Kissler hit 3 for 4 with a run and a double. The Cougars improved to 6-4 overall, 2-1 in Class 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Vikings fell to 6-6, 0-3.

Windsor 15, Loveland 0, 5 inn., in Loveland: Windsor secured a second 15-0 win against Loveland in the past three days. The Wizards put forth a consistent attack, scoring in every inning. They out-hit Loveland 12-1. Junior Chris Valerio, senior Eastin Hubbard, senior Izaak Haro and junior Ozzy Letofsky each had two RBI. Senior Grant Kerber pitched all five innings for Windsor, allowing no runs on one hit, striking five and walking one. The Wizards improved to 9-3 overall, 3-1 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

University 14, Liberty Common 5, in ŷɫƬ: University bounced back emphatically from a rare loss, to Resurrection Christian, two days earlier. The Bulldogs shook off an early 1-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the second. They out-hit Liberty Common 12-4. Senior Will Korby led the way, hitting 2 for 5 with four RBI, a run and a triple. Senior Kaden Turk hit 3 for 5 with three runs and one RBI. University improved to 9-3 overall, 1-1 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play.

Eaton 6, Brush 2, in Eaton: Eaton picked up a quality win against a longtime league rival, claiming its fifth consecutive win and improving to 10-2 overall, 2-0 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. The Reds led just 3-2 before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Jackson Denooy and junior Liam Whalen each had two RBI. Whalen hit 2 for 3 with a run. Junior Gunnar Garrison pitched six of seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Platte Valley 12, Strasburg 2, 6 inn., in Kersey: Platte Valley’s strong season rolled on, as the Broncos improved to 9-3 overall, 2-0 in 4A/3A/2A Patriot League play. Platte Valley scored in every inning, going up 6-2 through two innings. They out-hit Strasburg 10-2. Junior Logan Hackett led the way, hitting 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run. He was one of four Broncos batters with two RBI apiece. Junior Hazen Weber was solid on the mound, allowing one earned run on two hits, striking out 10 and walking five.

Fort Lupton 16, Arrupe Jesuit 2, 5 inn., in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton completely dominated this league game, going up 10-2 in just the first inning. The Bluedevils out-hit Arrupe Jesuit 13-3 and had one error, compared to five for the Generals. Senior Jesse Ceretto led the way, hitting 4 for 4 with four RBI, two runs, two triples and a double. Four Fort Lupton players had multiple hits. The Bluedevils improved to 5-6 overall, 3-1 in 3A/2A Frontier League play.

Prairie wins two, in Peetz: Prairie secured its third and fourth wins against Peetz this week, sweeping another doubleheader, 8-2 and 15-5 in five innings. In Game 1, the Mustangs trailed 1-0 until scoring four runs in the top of the fourth. They out-hit the Bulldogs 15-6 in that game. Prairie led Game 2 from the get-go, going up 5-1 in the first inning and 12-1 in the second. The Mustangs improved to 6-4 overall.

Fossil Ridge 16, ŷɫƬ West 2, in ŷɫƬ: For the second time in three days, ŷɫƬ West struggled against a strong Fossil Ridge squad. The Sabercats out-hit the Spartans 15-6. West trailed 4-1 after one inning and 14-1 after two. Senior Owen Wildt recorded the Spartans’ only RBI. Seniors Beau Schaller and Jeremiah Duhring had two hits apiece for West. The Spartans fell to 4-10 overall, 0-6 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Girls soccer

Northridge 6, Roosevelt 0, in Johnstown: Northridge put forth a consistent attack, scoring three goals in each half. The Grizzlies improved to 4-3-2 overall, 2-0-1 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Roosevelt fell to 1-6-1, 0-3.

Frontier Academy 9, Valley 0, in ŷɫƬ: Frontier Academy stayed red hot, winning its fifth consecutive match and improving to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in 3A/2A Patriot League play. The Wolverines led 6-0 at halftime before tacking on three more goals in the second half. Valley fell to 3-5, 0-1.

Windsor 2, Fort Collins 1, in Fort Collins: Windsor secured this hard-fought conference win to improve to 6-3 overall, 1-1 5A/4A Northern Conference play. The match was tied at 1 at halftime before the Wizards scored the winning goal in the second half. Freshman Rylinn Barnhardt and junior Braely Martinez each had a goal for Windsor.

Severance 2, Wellington 1, in Wellington: Severance secured this nail-biter to improve to 5-2-1 overall, 2-0 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

Thompson Valley 4, ŷɫƬ Central 0, 5 inn., in ŷɫƬ: ŷɫƬ Central dropped its third consecutive match, despite senior goalkeeper Esmeralda Corral’s 17 saves. The Wildcats fell to 2-6-1 overall, 0-2 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play.

Loveland 3, ŷɫƬ West 1, in ŷɫƬ: Trailing 2-0 at halftime, ŷɫƬ West could never catch up in this conference game. The Spartans dropped their third consecutive game, falling to 3-5-2 overall, 0-2 in 5A/4A Northern Conference play.

Sterling 1, Weld Central 0, in Keenesburg: Weld Central fell just inches short of snapping a five-match losing streak. The match was scoreless at halftime before Sterling scored the winning goal in the second half. The Rebels dropped to 2-7 overall, 0-1 in 3A/2A Patriot League play.

Longmont 4, Windsor Charter 1, in Windsor: Windsor Charter suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 3-1-1 overall, 0-1 in 3A/2A Patriot League play. All five of the game’s goals came in the first half. Freshman Livy Wallace scored the Firebirds’ sole goal. Freshman goalkeeper Addison Wells had 16 saves.

Dawson School 10, Union Colony 0, in Lafayette: Union Colony’s first win continued to elude it, as the Timberwolves fell to 0-6-1 overall, 0-4 in 2A Mile High play. Union Colony junior goalkeeper Nadene Chacon had 16 saves.

Boys swimming and diving

Windsor 112, Poudre 67, in Windsor: Windsor placed first in just four of 12 events but showcased its depth to comfortably to win this dual. Among the highlights, junior Lucas Penn won the 100 breaststroke (1:08.80) and was second in the 200 freestyle (1:52.86). Junior Elias Everitt won the 200 individual medley (2:10.01) and was second in the 500 freestyle (5:23.61).

Girls tennis

Eaton 4, Vail Christian 3, in Eaton: Eaton wasn’t able to pick up a win in a singles match, but it won all four doubles matches. Among the wins, juniors Madi Smith and Trinity Salberg defeated sophomores Olivia Zajac and Sabrina Nabonsal 5-7, 7-6, 0-0 (10-6). The Reds improved to 2-2 in duals.

Fort Lupton 4, Gateway 2, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton won all three singles matches, including a 6-1, 6-0 win by junior Dahlila Tijerina at No. 1 singles. The Bluedevils improved to 3-5-1 in duals.

Rocky Mountain 7, ŷɫƬ West 0, in Fort Collins: ŷɫƬ West dropped all seven matches in straight sets against a tough Rocky Mountain squad. In perhaps the most competitive match of the dual, Spartans junior Danae Rowe fell to sophomore Emma Praver 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 2 singles. West dropped to 3-4 overall, 1-4 in league play.

Loveland 4, Windsor 3, in Windsor: Windsor narrowly lost this conference dual, dropping all three singles matches but winning three of four doubles matches. Wizards juniors Taylor Meinen and Mia Baatz defeated seniors Roxy Sare and Gia Warner 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Windsor fell to 1-5 overall, 0-5 in 4A Region 4 play.

Track and field

Briggsdale, Prairie compete, in Wray: Briggsdale and Prairie were two of the 22 teams that competed in the Dick Evans Invitational, hosted by Wray. Prairie junior Tanna Bailey won the girls 3,200-meter run in 13 minutes, 40.02 seconds. Mustangs freshman Amelia Stroud was third in girls high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Senior Kaeden Gebauer led Briggsdale, placing second in the boys 200 (23.25) and third in long jump (18′, 9.75 “). Falcons senior Kayl Klem placed fourth in the girls 100-meter hurdles (52.76 seconds) and sixth in the 100 (18.33).

Boys volleyball

Severance 3, Arrupe Jesuit 0, in Severance: Severance kept rolling, winning its sixth consecutive match and improving to 10-6 overall, 7-0 in 4A Northern Conference play. The Silver Knights won 25-16, 25-10, 25-8.

Niwot 3, ŷɫƬ Central 0, in Niwot: ŷɫƬ Central dropped its seventh consecutive match, falling 25-12, 25-9, 25-17. The Wildcats moved to 2-10 overall, 0-5 in 5A Northern Conference play.

Mountain View 3, Fort Lupton 0, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton was unable to maintain contact in the three sets, falling 25-9, 25-20, 25-10. The Bluedevils dropped their 10th consecutive game and fell to 1-10 overall, 1-6 in 4A Northern Conference play.
